Local Conservative Councillors in the North East of Ipswich have said ‘Yes please!’ to plans to redevelop the play area at the Cherry Lane Recreation ground off Rushmere Road. Local teacher and father Jim Jenner is in discussion with Ipswich Borough and Suffolk County Councillors about providing exciting new facilities for local children.
Although Cherry Lane has long been a favourite place for dog walkers, footballers and quiet contemplation it is, perhaps, enjoyed most by young children. Visiting the ‘Rec’ this week, all parties were in agreement. The play equipment was old and needed replacement. Councillor Stroet touched on the importance of the project.
“This is a project that will serve the community right across the North-East of Ipswich. It’s a part of our town that needs to make the most of its limited green spaces. Jim’s presentation to the North East Area Committee excited widespread interest.”
The extensive ‘makeover’ will cost something in the order of £70,000. However, the project got off to a flying start when it was agreed at this week’s North East Area Committee meeting to make £25,000 available for the improvements. In addition, Suffolk County Councillors from each of the North East wards will provide further funds from their locality budgets.
Mr Jenner has created a friends page on Facebook so donors and other interested parties can show their support and keep up-to-date with developments.
