Broomhill swimming pool should be able to re-open in 2 years in the summer of 2026, many years after it had to close in the early 2000s.
The £10m project to restore the lido can now proceed after a funding deal was reached between Fusion-Lifestyle, the National Heritage Lottery Fund, and Ipswich Borough Council.
Tom says "Really pleased about this. The unsuccessful levelling up fund bid last year was a set back but we’ve all persevered and finally we’ve got the outcome we all wanted.
"The pandemic and rising inflation blew the previous funding package apart and this additional very generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund is vital to ensuring the project will be completed and Broomhill Lido will finally be reopened.
"I’ve met with Heritage Lottery Fund officials and sent them many letter stressing my strong support for it. This is very good news for Ipswich on a number of different levels."
