Two years ago, Ben promised two new routes - a Northern Route and the Upper Orwell Crossings - to end the congestion that too often blocks our town. He has managed to win the funding and engage an architect to start work on the Upper Orwell Crossings.
The Northern Route, which will be more expensive and complicated, will take more time. Ben is already making significant progress with his plans.
Such a route has long been controversial in Suffolk and few decisions made. Ben was determined to get action commencing and has lobbied both councils over 7 years. Three possible routes have been suggested.
Ben says "Whilst we need to be sensitive to the concerns of those who the route will affect, we should be straight about what would happen if we do not build: Our town, the largest engine of jobs, prosperity and opportunity in the county will be smothered. This is particularly the case as our town has grown, with the clear need for new housing. This housing must be served by a new route.
"Once we have the preferred route later this year, I will then lobby for the required funding.
"The good news is that the Conservative Party is the only party promising funding for new roads that go with new housing, so we are in with a good chance. We now need to make it happen. With success in other winning money for other schemes, I am confident that we will be able to get the road that Ipswich needs".
The only way to be sure that we have a local MP standing up for Ipswich is to VOTE BEN GUMMER on Thursday, Theresa May's candidate. Ben has a proven track record of fighting for the best deals for Ipswich. Jeremy Corbyn does not understand basic economics and his plans contain billions of pounds of unfunded spending proposals. He wants to increase your council tax, and Corbyn's candidate in Ipswich would vote for it and would fail to get the investment Ipswich needs. This individual would have bankrupted Suffolk County Council within 2 years if they had won the election in May.
The only choice on Thursday is BEN GUMMER.
