It has been the greatest honour of my life to have been elected as the Member of Parliament for Ipswich in the early hours of Friday morning.
The the result here in Ipswich and across the country is a clear indication that the majority of people would like the referendum result to be respected and Brexit to be delivered. There is a huge desire for us to turn a chapter and move on as a country. Once we have left the EU the focus then needs to be on bringing people together and healing the divisions in our country, however difficult this may be.
I was the Conservative Prospective Parliamentary candidate for 14 months and in that time I was able to meet with thousands of people across the town to learn about their priorities and the ways in which they think Ipswich can become a better place to live.
All of my energies and passion will now be turned to working on behalf of all 75,000 of my constituents to promote our Town and secure the backing it needs from Government.
I made clear during the election campaign that I felt Ipswich deserved an MP who would spend 2020 energetically looking to address issues across Town. Not re running the Brexit referendum. The job now falls to me to do this. I will do my very best not to let anyone down.
Whether it's funding for our schools, police or transport infrastructure, Ipswich and Suffolk hasn't got a fair deal and this is something I would like to change. Crime and anti-social behaviour has been the number one issue raised with me on the door step and I will work with whoever I need to in order to address the situation and alleviate peoples concerns. Everyone deserves to feel safe and secure within the community in which they live and sadly in our Town there are many occasions where this isn't the case.
Opportunities for young people is an issue close to my heart and I will work tirelessly to try and help all of our young people to achieve their full potential regardless of their background or disabilities. We have a great Hospital with brilliant staff but in need of further investment. Rest assured this is something I will be pushing for.
On Monday I head to Parliament to carry out my duties as the Member of Parliament for Ipswich. This a great honour but also a great responsibility. I will always be ambitious for our Town and in everything I do I will always put Ipswich residents first.
