Following a lead from Conservative Cllr Lee Reynolds in St Margaret’s Ward who had been talking to St. Johns Tennis Club secretary David Wilson, Cllr’s Stephen Ion and Edward Phillips visited David at the club in Westbury Road to discuss how they might be able to help. The club has been fundraising to refurbish its three tennis courts for many years and was seeking help with the funding. Local Conservatives were keen to see how they could help.
Following these discussions, it was agreed that local Conservatives would seek funding to help with the repairs through their Local Area Committee. Cllr Ion spoke to Ipswich Borough Council and an application was put forward. This was supported by all the Conservative Cllrs on the Committee and the Tennis club was awarded a grant of £2,500 towards the work. The grant helped towards the club not only upgrading the courts, but also completing the floodlighting of their third court.
Ben Gummer MP and your local Conservatives Councillors opened the court in October. If local people have any local schemes that they would like funding help with, then do get in contact with your local Conservative Councillor.
