Many residents across the town have complained to your Conservative representatives on the doorstep, about car parking on grass verges. This destroys the verges and creates mud patches, particularly in wet and wintry weather.
After pressure from Conservative Councillor Paul West, the county council has carried out consultations in a limited number of roads across various parts of Ipswich, that asked residents whether they would support an experimental traffic order that would see cars issued with a ticket where the car was parked on the verge or footway. (If parking on the road itself, no such ticket would be issued.)
In Bixley Ward, this consultation occurred in Chilton Road, there was a 24% response rate with over 80% of those in favour of the scheme.
Other consultations occurred in St John's, Priory Heath, Gipping, Castle Hill and Rushmere wards.
The scheme for Bixley is likely to start in late Spring, and will be enforced by the existing parking enforcement teams. Other schemes may also commence shortly in other wards.
If they are a success, then similar proposals could be considered for implementation in other roads across the town.
This action is only happening because of a Conservative County Councillor working in partnership with Suffolk County Highways.
Labour councillors in other areas of Ipswich have failed to influence highway policies, and their dangerous spending plans for Suffolk would mean there is no money to pay for schemes like this.
Only by voting Conservative on 4th May, will ensure you have Conservative County Councillors working hard on your behalf and fighting for Ipswich.
