Figures out this week show that unemployment is at the lowest rate since 1975 and over three million more people are in work since 2010. This means 3,068,000 people are in work in the Eastern Region – an increase of 324,000 since the Conservatives came into Government.
Friday's GDP figures show that our economy has grown by 16.8 per cent since 2010.
The employment rate and the number of people in work, the number of women in work and black and minority ethnic employment all reached record highs during last year.
This is due to the action we are continuing to take to support people into work, through cutting taxes on business, reforming the welfare system and investing in skills. We will continue to work to make sure that our economy remains strong to create the better, higher-paying jobs that people need.
Here in Ipswich, the number of people claiming the key out of work benefits has fallen by 1486 – a 50% drop – since 2010.
Ipswich Conservatives welcomed these figures showing that more people are back in work since 2010, and that the level of people out of work is at the lowest level in over 40 years.
These figures also show that there are 400,000 fewer young people out of work since 2010, while the number of people in work and the number of full-time jobs in the workforce are at record highs.
Under this Conservative government with the first 7 years with Ben Gummer as the Conservative MP, the number of people out of work has fallen by over a million and here in Ipswich, residents on the main out of work benefits have halved.
Labour’s reckless and ill-thought-out policies would put all this at risk. Whilst Mr Corbyn and his shadow chancellor whinge about how terrible things are in their world, only the Conservatives are building a strong economy that works for everyone. This is vital to make sure that we can help businesses create better, higher paying jobs and are able fund our schools and hospitals.
