After nearly two years local resident Jim Jenner has achieved his target of £75,000 to refurbish and re-equip the children’s play area in Cherry Tree Rec in NE Ipswich, between Rushmere and Woodbridge Roads. Local County Councillors made significant contributions out of their locality budgets, with further monies coming from Veridor and the NE Committee.
“Mr. Jenner has been tenacious in pursuing funding, and we are delighted to have helped by championing this project from the time he first raised it with us,” comments Bixley Cllr. Kym Stroet. “There is very little public open space in the NE of the town, particularly in Bixley. Cherry Tree Rec is one of those hidden gems, well used by local residents.”
Bixley Conservative candidate Eddy Phillips, who grew up in Jupiter Road said “I’ve known this recreation ground all my life, from playing games here when I was younger or helping to walk my family’s dogs over the years. The present play equipment was installed about 25 years ago, and has become rather dated. In fact, this replaced an earlier slide and swings, so it is great news that Mr Jenner has worked so hard to get this project off the ground and that our local kids will have some decent equipment this year. . I was pleased to attend the various local area committee meetings with other residents and offer my input into the consultation on what local residents wanted for this major scheme for the rec.”
